Celebrate Halloween in Tulum
Halloween is approaching, and there’s nothing that will get you in the mood to celebrate more than Mexico’s holiday of “Dia de los Muertos”. This tradition is not about giving out candy or dressing up as your favorite character or prop, but rather celebrating the lives of those we’ve lost. And there is no better place to take in the occasion than in Tulum.
This culturally rich and vibrant small city is one of the best places on the entire continent to celebrate Dia de los Muertos. There is no large Festival of Xcaret as you’ll find in other areas such as Playa del Carmen, but many Tulum hotels still find a way to honor this sacred holiday. So just what is the holiday celebrating, anyway?
Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead as it’s also known, is a time of remembrance, and an occasion to honor and remember those that have passed on. Beginning on November 1, this is the day to reflect about the children that have been lost far too early, and is called Dia de los Inocentes, or Day of the Innocents. November 2 is the second and last day of the holiday, known as Dia de los Muertos, or “Day of the Dead.”
The alters, memorials, and statues that you’ll see throughout all of Mexico can still be found throughout the region, and at Cabanas Tulum Hotel we also recognize the holiday and have a few of our own traditions. Many of the bars in town hold theme nights and if it’s a party you’re looking for, you’ll be sure to find many being held on the beach!
Taking part in Dia de los Muertos is one of the best ways to experience Mexican culture and take in one of the most precious ways we honor those that have passed away. If you want to see it for yourself and have an experience you’ll never forget, book a stay with us at the Cabanas Tulum Hotel and help us celebrate!
